What it is

Colour Calm is a colouring book that tries to feel like the real thing. The page has a paper grain, so a light pencil stroke catches only the tops of the fibres and a harder press fills them in. Go over a spot again to make it deeper, or lay one colour over another to blend. A drawing pen gives crisp ink lines that get bolder when you press, crayons are waxy, and markers give bright, even colour. Each tool makes its own quiet sound on the paper.

With a stylus such as an Apple Pencil or S Pen, pressure and tilt work just like a pencil: tilt it over to shade with the side. With a finger or a mouse, slow strokes go darker and quick strokes stay light. There are 38 original pages: big friendly pictures for little artists, mandalas, rangoli and mehndi patterns. There is no timer and no score, and your pictures stay on your own device.
