What it is

Patang is kite flying and kite fighting on festival day, when every roof in the old city has someone flying. Your kite points one way at a time. Hold to pull (khench) and it darts the way it points. Let go to give line (dheel) and it drifts with the wind and slowly turns by itself, so you wait for the right moment and pull again.

When two strings cross, a pech starts. Keep your needle in the moving green zone, hold to raise it and let go to lower it, and push the knot all the way to cut the other string. Kai po che! The cut kite flutters away on the wind, and whoever touches it first catches it as loot.

How to play

  1. Hold and let go

Hold anywhere on the screen (Space or the mouse on a computer) to pull. Let go and the kite turns slowly by itself. Slide your finger while holding to turn it.

  2. Cross a string

Fly across another kite’s string to start a pech. The higher kite gets an edge, and swooping in fast starts you ahead.

  3. Win the pech

Keep your white needle in the green part of the meter. Pull too hard and you strain your own string. Push the knot to their side to cut it.

  4. Catch the loot

Cut kites drift away. Touch one with your kite to catch it for a bonus star.

Ways to play

Festival day: eight rooftops from morning to the evening lanterns. Quick fight: Easy, Normal or Hard. Two players on one phone: left and right halves of the screen. Online: up to six kites in one sky. Free flying: no fights at all.

Fair for everyone

Kite designs only change the look. Kite size is a free choice, and stronger manja is earned with stars, never bought. Online and two-player games use plain manja for everyone.

Real kites, safely

Fly real kites in an open place with a grown-up, far from power lines and roads, and never use glass-coated or metal manja: it hurts birds and people.
